To My Rowing Teammates

You will never meet greater people than these four girls.

To My Rowing Teammates
Lewis 2017

This past weekend, I had the honor of racing with four of the greatest people you will ever meet. This is not to say that I do not love my other teammates and the other boats I have competed in, but this letter is specifically for the four amazing women that made up the Women's Varsity 4+, or as we lovingly referred to it as, The Hot Mess Express.

For the past month, we made countless sacrifices to stay in Gainesville, even after the school year ended, to stay and practice for our upcoming races. We went out and practiced almost every day, sometimes twice a day, regardless of exams and summer classes starting up. We all stayed in Maddy's two-bedroom apartment on two mattresses that we moved to the living room, and we cooked, cleaned and lived life together for about a month. We were rarely apart, and the few times that we were apart, we talked about our separation anxiety and how much we missed each other.

These four girls are the absolute best friends anyone could ask for. Even after a month in close quarters, I do not wish to spend time apart from them. They have constantly kept me laughing with their one-liners such as, "Don't they know I'm a Harry girl?" coming from Melanie when taking a One-Direction quiz online, and "Geology is not important," coming from Kaylin when she and Sam were talking about geography. They have also been there to offer support through the more serious things in life like crushing the patriarchy and hating every boy that has ever done us wrong.

You seriously will not meet anyone better than Sam, the team mom who sacrifices her time to make sure everything runs smoothly. She will take extra time out of her day to stay and clean up after a mess she did not make, and who is going back to Africa for the second time to help out at an orphanage.

Melanie, one of the most caring people you will ever meet, who has a heart of gold and is constantly there to make sure everyone feels loved and accepted, and also possibly one of the funniest people you could ever hope to meet in your lifetime.

Kaylin, who could motivate the world's biggest curmudgeon with one of her famous pep talks, and constantly says things like "Somebody has to win, why not us?" and, "All heart." Seriously, this girl knows how to bring people together, lift their spirits and motivate them like no other.

Maddy, who is literally going to be the greatest coach ever one day, and is constantly perfecting the boat's rowing and my coxing, and who is arguably the best storyteller around with her fantastic stories about "States 2012." She has patience like no other, which was shown when she helped me learn to crochet. Honestly, I am the coxswain I am today because of her. I could just go on and on about the amazing qualities and hearts that each of these beautiful women have.

This boat has been with me through so much, like the infamous FSU race and a bit of a rough patch that I hit in my coxing career. As I close this with tears in my eyes, I realize how much of an impact this boat has had on my life. The Hot Mess Express will be a memory I will never forget. These four girls will always be in my heart. I love you guys!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
