An Open Letter To The Wonder Women

An Open Letter To The Wonder Women
Verne Ho

You are a woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to get it. That is beautiful and something to be proud of. Not everyone is like you, but they secretly wish they were.

You may not have everything completely figured out, but you are hardworking and success-driven so you know you cannot fail.

Sometimes you feel overwhelmed. You want to do everything, learn everything, see everything, experience everything. Unfortunately, you still only have 24 hours in a day. Even worse, you are still a human who needs to do trivial things like sleep, eat, and shower.

You love a challenge. You don't look for the easy way out and you give 100% to everything that you do.

Boredom is an unknown concept to you. There is not possibly enough time in the day to be bored.

You are always moving. Nothing is stagnant in your life. You are on a constant path forward, and all you know is that the future is bright.

You are in a constant state of stress. Deadlines, and meetings, and exams - oh my. You thrive off of that stress. You crave the buzz.

You get an adrenaline rush from accomplishing something. Crossing an item off your to-do list is a glorious moment and you love the satisfaction.

You have the comfort of inevitable success. Sure, you aren't guaranteed that dream job, but you know that you are working for it more than a lot of other people, and your competition truly isn't competition.

Sometimes the stress becomes too much. You may cry or eat an entire package of Oreos. That's okay, and you know it. Eventually you will run out of tears and Oreos, and you will return to being the kick-ass lady that you are.

Sometimes people are intimidated by you. They just don't understand. They think your goals are crazy and don't know why you would rather have an experience than watch Netflix.

They will be intimidated when you are their boss, too.

You sometimes scare yourself. You wonder if it's too much... if you can handle all of the pressure you place on yourself. You sometimes consider slowing down, but you realize there is no such thing.

You are moving full-speed ahead. You are always living one step ahead, and you know what you want your life to be like in ten years.

You are a fierce fire and no one can dull your flame.

You are a real world wonder woman; let's hear you roar.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Waitlisted for a College Class? Here's What to Do!

Dealing with the inevitable realities of college life.

college students waiting in a long line in the hallway

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
