An Open Letter To Summer 2018
Kinsey Roberts

Dear Summer 2018,

I’m writing to you to explain what I want for this summer and everything that I want to accomplish as well. I may be expecting a lot but I want my expectations to be clear from the beginning. This past academic year went by in a whirlwind and was quite stressful for me so I want to have a fun summer. I expect you to be filled with adventures and fun. I also expect you to be a time of personal growth and betterment. I also expect to learn a lot about myself as well as this is going to be the first summer that I’m spending not at home. I want to have a fantastic summer with no regret of wishing that I would have said yes a little more which is something I actually want to work on over the summer. I always expect a lot so don’t think I would expect any less from you.

I’m staying at college this summer so I know I will be able to adventure at anytime day or night without my parents asking me a billion questions about where I’m going or what I’m doing. I expect adventure because it seems like I go on many adventures during the school year and the summer provides more freedom to do so. I want to be able to travel this summer which I expect to do. I want to go on late night adventures with my friends and to have last minute road trips to go Up North to the Lake. I want to have a fabulous time on my trip to Washington, D.C. this summer. I wish for 3 am adventures to random places and spontaneous trips to Chicago. I want to be able to FaceTime my parents and tell them where I am and to see a surprised look on their face when I tell them I’m several states away on a last minute road trip. I want to be spontaneous and adventurous. I want this summer to be full of adventure and fun times. However, I know that I’m definitely not that adventurous but by the end of the summer I would love to be able to travel freely without thinking much about the plans that go along with my travels. This is where learning how to say yes to more opportunities comes into play because I think this is the perfect way to learn how to say yes more.

I expect to fill my free time with the opportunities for personal growth. I want to meal prep each week so I’m eating the best food for my body. I also want to exercise each day so that I have a rockin’ body when September rolls back around. Along with that, I also want to develop my mind as well this summer. I want to learn a new skill which I haven’t decided what I want to learn yet. I know I want to craft even more and work on DIY projects for my first apartment. Personal growth comes in many different varieties and I want to work on personal growth in all aspects. I want to work on saying yes more without questioning the logistics of every little thing and be open to new things.

I want my summer to be filled with friends new and old. I want to be able to further strengthen the friendships that I already have and want to develop new friendships. I want to spend as much time with my friends as possible and I strive to make sure that I do so. I want my summer filled with good times and late nights with my friends because we’re only young once. This summer is one of my last summers that I have while I can still be care free for the most part without much responsibility.

I expect a lot out of you Summer 2018 and I know you won’t disappoint. Here’s to a summer of adventures, friendship, living, and learning. Here’s to living a summer of no regrets and little responsibility.

Lots of Love,

Kinsey

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
