Hey Sibs,

I hope things are going well at home while I’m stuck away at college. College has made me miss you guys dearly, even though you’re merely a phone call or a text away. It isn’t the same as getting to walk into your room uninvited and sit down to talk to you when I’m bored. It’s weird that I don’t hear everyone talking downstairs and the sound of the television while I’m trying to get my homework done. It’s weird that I’m not missing the shirt I want to wear that day or that I can’t steal one I’d like to wear for the day. It’s weird that I won’t see you around campus or during sports or really any time because you’re not here and I’m not there.

I miss being able to come home and rant about something in my day or hear the positives that happened in one of yours. I miss one of you walking into my room before suddenly you’re all in there. I miss being able to see our dogs and cats and talk about the many, many nicknames we have for them without getting an odd look. I miss home cooked meals and steak nights. I can even say I almost miss the little arguments and having my clothes taken without permission.

Almost.

Really though, you guys are the best. You let me walk into your room, talk your ear off, annoy you, be weird, pick on you for a little bit, whatever it was, but never told me to leave. You guys let me talk in the specific voice we use towards our animals without judging me. You guys let me rant about the stupid thing that happened in my day that I know is stupid, but I still want to complain about. You let me borrow clothes and blare my music a little too loud. You also let me hole up in my room and have time to myself if I want it. You guys make me laugh until I cry or have sleepovers in your room even though mine is ten steps down the hallway.

I’m not sure there will ever be anyone else who will see me the way you guys do. That being said, you still love me for me no matter what and have my back always, and I can’t thank you enough for that. I can’t thank you enough for all of the little birthday presents, Christmas gift cards, car rides, funny jokes, and favors that you always give me. I hope you all know how much I love and appreciate you, as well as how willing I am to go down fighting for you. You’re my family and my best friends. Thank you for all that you do and all that you will continue to do.

On a side note, I can’t wait for us to all be adults and have family get-togethers. I can already see how much fun they’re going to be. I love having a big family, and I can’t wait to add even more to the mix. Like I’ve said before, we could have our own reality TV show, and I could almost guarantee it would be a hit. We’re the most entertaining group I know – a real-life version of a modern family.

I hope you know that you’re not all off the hook though, because when I come home, I’m talking your ear off twice as long as before, I’m coming into your rooms uninvited twice as much, and I have thought long and hard about the things I’m going to joke with you about.

So prepare yourselves.

But remember, it’s all in love.

Love,

Your Sib

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
