To The Best Coworkers I Could Ask For

I couldn't have gotten through the fast food business without you.

To my coworkers (past and present),

As you may know, I am leaving in a few weeks for college. While this job has definitely had its ups and downs, it's going to suck having to say goodbye. Every one of you has contributed to who I currently am as a person. It's crazy to think that in my time being here, I have grown immensely as an individual because of this job and the people I've worked with.

I remember walking in as a shy, timid 16-year-old desperate for any job. Though it took a few months to grow out of my comfort zone, I'm so thankful for the inside jokes, stories, and laugh-until-you-cry moments I've had throughout the years. You've all truly become my second family, and I'm going to miss each and every one of you.

We've conquered a lot together as a team: survived core, battled through difficult rushes, dealt with rude customers and lagging computers, and rewarded ourselves with several staff parties. I couldn't have asked for a better crew to do all of this with.

Many will just view this job as a silly, gross, temporary job. Some may ask, "It's just fast food, what's the big deal?" If I'm being honest, I used to be that person; however, I've come to realize that the people who work in fast food, or really in any job, aren't just employees --- they're people. They're people with families, relationships, and dreams. Holding this job has helped me better understand the work force and the people involved; they're not low-life slackers who don't have goals. I want all of my coworkers, past and present, to know that you have come so far in your work positions and life in general and that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

This job hasn't always been a walk in the park. Sometimes I just don't feel like coming to work, and I know that also goes for everyone else. We've had our disagreements, moments where we could've stepped up but didn't, and made our mistakes. But we've managed to work through our differences and the stress that this job can hold, and I'm proud of what we've accomplished as a team.

Honestly, I had no idea how close I would grow to all of you. It's been great getting to know all of your personalities and interests. Thank you for the new friendships and becoming some of my Snapchat streaks. I couldn't have asked for a better first job and better first coworkers. Thank you for including me as a crew member, motivating me, and teaching me lessons (life lessons and in-store lessons).

Often times, I would use work as an escape from the outside stress I felt from time to time, and it always helped to come to work and see all of you. It's going to be different not working with you guys in just a few short weeks; just remember I'll keep you in my thoughts, and that I wish nothing but the best in wherever life takes you; you're all undeniably amazing.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
