Dear Old Friend,
It's been a while since we last talked. Do I miss you? I'd be lying if I said I didn't. You were a huge part of my life. Keyword: were.
Now we walk around pretending this friendship never existed. You'll deny the importance I once played in your life, but I'm not afraid to hide the past that we shared. Together, we laughed until we cried. Together, we stayed as others left. Together, we made memories my mind is having trouble erasing. You were my go to plans and partner in crime, my comfort zone and forever friend. We were inseparable, and today we could not be more far apart. What happened to us?
It's been a while since we last talked. Do you miss me? You'd be lying if you said you did. I was a friendship of utility to you, only useful when convenient. You used me and abused me. You never cared. Thank you for showing me your true colors, and what our bond really meant to you. Thank you for leaving, allowing me to escape the toxicity between us. This had to happen to us eventually.
It's been a while since we last talked. How am I doing? Better. Happier. Relieved. I can finally surround myself with people who only lift me higher. They care about my well being almost more than their own. They've proven through their actions that they are here for me, through thick and through thin. I trust them. I confide in them. I laugh just as hard as I've cried with them. I love them for who they are, not what they can give me. They happen to love me just as much.
It's been a while since we last talked. How are you doing? How are your new "friends?" Have you learned how to be one yet? I hope you reciprocate the same respect they'll give you. I hope you're there for them on dark days. I hope your word means as much to them as theirs should mean to you. I hope all of this happens and more.
Oh, old friend. It's been a while since we last talked, and I'm not sure if we ever will again. Through losing you, I discovered it is not the quantity of your friends that matters, but the quality. I've been blessed to stumble upon some high quality friends with you out of the picture. Thank God this happened.
