I sit here writing this letter after a lovely dinner of La Piedad and friendship with my big and great-grand big. As I considered what to write about this week, I decided to write an open letter to two of the most important people in my life who are rather new additions in the grand scheme of things. So without further ado, here goes nothing:
Dear Otter Family,
I want to start out by saying that I’m so happy I met both of you. We may not have a large family tree, but that makes us all the more close-knit. Having two people in my life who are there for me to dump all of my concerns onto has been invaluable. My day never fails to be made when I unexpectedly get to see one of you on my walk to class. Thank you for being understanding about my crazy schedule, and loving me just how I am.
McKenna, from our first date at Huddles, I had hoped that somehow I would get to get to know you. You’re such a vibrant person with a lovely personality. As much as you worry about asking too many questions or stalking me, I appreciate the interest that you show in what’s going on in my life. I was so excited when I found out that you were my GG, and my excitement has yet to wane for the memories we’ll make in the future.
Emily, you are a very lovely human being and the best big a girl could ask for. It makes me so happy that we’re interested in the same areas and that I can complain about biology and know you’ll understand. Perhaps one of your most important contributions to my life has been introducing me to my new favorite cookie brand. I haven’t decided if it’s going to improve or destroy my life. You’re so sweet and kind, and it was a relief to know that my big was someone I sort of knew and I wasn’t going to have to start completely over in terms of a friendship. I’m so excited I get to spend time with you and even share the same stage as you when we graduate.
I’m so happy to be a sea otter and have a place where I can hold hands with the ones I love and float along through life. You guys are seriously amaze-balls, and hopefully, by the end of this literary masterpiece, you’ll understand how excited I am about you. I realize that my face tends to exude apathy, but I promise my inner Abby is jumping up and down when I get to hang out with you both. So here's to the Jeopardy viewing sessions I’m going to make you come to and the Mexican food I may beg you to eat on my behalf. I promise to support you both whenever you need me, so just call me up and I’ll be there with an ear to listen and some sort of dessert-based item. I just hope that I can provide as much love and support to you guys as you’ve already given to me.
With love from your otterly excited little and GG,
Abby
