To My New College Besties

Some people don't meet lifelong friends in the beginning of college -- but I am fortunate enough to say I did

Hey guys,

I know we’re all just kids in college, and we’ve got a whole lot of life ahead of us and definitely a lot more schooling. We all struggled through chemistry, school in general, and late nights together, complaining until it ends. Now that finals week is coming up, we all know those complaints will be increased by an insane amount. However, I hope you all know that I’ll gladly listen and complain along with you. Even though we’re excited for the school year to end and be able to rest our brains for a summer, I’m a bit sad about it anyways. I know it won’t take long before I miss you guys.

I’m so thankful to have met you guys my first semester when coming to college was a bit chaotic and confusing. I’m so thankful you guys were there along the way, helping me get through the things you knew and figuring out the things you didn’t with me. I’m thankful to have you guys down for photo shoots, nights out, and football games anytime. I’m thankful for all the birthday dinner days and the dressing-up-just-because days and the binge-watching Netflix days. I’m thankful I had a whole new friend group within just a short time of entering college. I'm even thankful to be able to rant in the dorm stairwell or the middle of the floor in the back of our rooms. You guys made the hard times bearable and always let me know that no matter how many people are on campus, I have my group. You also help me to remember that I'm not as dumb as I might sometimes feel.

They say that who you started the year with won’t be who you end the year with, but I’ll have to disagree. It seems over time we’ve all just gotten to know each other better, and I know that we’ll be seeing a lot of each other next school year, whether we’re neighbors in a dorm or going out together to catch up. I know that over the summer, I’ll miss you guys too much not to take spur-of-the-moment road trips, and I also know that you guys would be just as willing to get on board. I love how down for adventures all of you are – it makes for some great memories right off the bat.

I also can’t thank you guys enough for how supportive of me you are. If I have a breakdown and consider switching my major, you guys are there to help me weigh out the pros and cons. If I might be interested in a boy, you guys help me decide if I should pursue it or not. If I’m overwhelmed with stress, you guys listen and comfort me as I cry it out. If I get a new leadership position or a research opportunity, you guys are there to help me celebrate. If I make a bad joke, you guys still laugh, even if you may think after the fifth one that it’s getting annoying.

Even when I write articles, you guys always tell me how good you thought they were and you’re sure to like them on my social media. When I post a selfie, you guys are right there to hype me up and make me feel good about myself. I know that if someone were to annoy me or upset me or say anything about me, you guys would stand behind me, which means a lot. You guys should know how much it all means to me. You guys are the forever type of friends that not many meet within their first years of college. I was fortunate enough to get that.

Although we’re only our first year in, I know I have lifelong friends with you guys. And as we’ve joked before...

I’ll see you at my wedding.

Sincerely,

Ya Girl

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
