An Open Letter To Myself In 4 Years

I hope you don't have everything figured out, and know that's okay.

Hey, Future Me,

I hope all is well in my future life. There are so many things you wished to do, and I hope you were able to accomplish some of them, instead of saying you would and pushing it back to where you never end up doing it. I hope that you didn’t get too worked up with finishing college. I hope that you actually finished college…

Mom would kill you!

Seriously though, I hope you are completely different than who you were when you were a freshman in college. Well not a complete Hannah Montana version of the old me but more of a new improved 2017 Miley Cyrus version of my younger self.

I hope you tried out the class everyone feared and came out on top. I hope you bought a bomb pair of shoes without the opinion of anyone else. I hope you figured out what to do with your major. I’m curious to see if it was the same one you started out college with. Oh yeah, and did you ever decide where you wanted to live after college? I know before it was always New York City, but I know you're a Cali girl deep down.

I hope you still keep up with cycling class or even become an instructor teaching awesome classes that feel more like parties than sweating death. I hope you cut out meat. I know that is highly unlikely but a sense of willpower would do you some good. I hope you got over what theme to make your Instagram. Not all filters are in your favor…

I hope you got a dog, and are greeted with excitement every time you walk through the door. I hope that you picked up meditation and found your Zen. I hope that you are not a slave to your cell phone and that you still crave and construct human interactions along with connections. I hope that you are in a music video someday or do something completely crazy and spontaneous like skydiving or DJ at a nightclub.

I hope you find yourself, but still seek to learn more. I hope that you travel, and see the world and embrace other beautiful cultures. I hope you continue to give back to those in need through whatever means necessary.

I hope that you still call your mom every day and text like you guys are best friends. I hope you touch an elephant one day…just because. I hope you have Wednesday Wine Night with the girls like the movies and spill all your weekly tea over a nice glass of red wine.

But lastly, I hope that you know it’s okay to not have everything figured out. I know that’s kind of a weird request but I want you to seek new experience and live out an unexpected but tremendous life. I don’t want you to have regret or hate in your heart. I hope for you to wake up every day positive and thankful, wanting to enjoy the journey instead of seeking the destination.

Love,

Present-day Me

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
