An Open Letter To My Best Friend's Family

Words can't even begin to describe how thankful I am to have more than one family. I mean, one family is out of this world, but two? It is really something else. I know deep down that I will be invited to every family get-together, that I'll get a Christmas card every year, and that I'm always welcome in your home and for that I am incredibly grateful.

First, I need to thank you:

Thank you for bringing your beautiful daughter/granddaughter/niece into this world and raising her in the best way possible. Without her, I don't know how I would've made it through life this far. I know that I could always rely on her and all of you, and I am so grateful for it.

Thank you for always allowing me into your home(s) and letting me stay there. If something were to happen, I know I would be welcome and I can't thank you enough for that.

Thank you for bringing your daughter/granddaughter/niece to my house for whatever occasion or taking us to the mall or wherever we needed to go. We could always rely on you guys. Even if it meant picking her up at 8 a.m. or dropping me off at 10 p.m. before we could drive ourselves.

Thank you for letting us be kids, but also treating us like adults. Somehow we made it to early adulthood and we have you to thank for.

Thanks for letting us gossip to you and getting whatever we had on our chest off. Sometimes we just need to tell someone else the juicy drama. Thank you for listening.

Thank you for helping shape who I am today. I spent a ton of time at my own house, but I also spent a ton of time at yours too. Thank you for helping me become the person I am today.

Thank you for always supporting me and telling me that I will be successful no matter what. Those encouraging words meant everything to me.

Thank you for accepting me into your big crazy family.

Second I need you to know that:

I will always be there for every single one of you, especially your daughter/granddaughter/niece. She means more to me than anything and I would sacrifice my life for her.

I need you to know that my house is also your house and whenever you are in need you are always welcome to my home. My family will help your family.

I need to you know that (if it isn't apparent enough) I am so so so thankful for everything you have done for me. Anything that I could do wouldn't be enough to show you the thanks you deserve.

So to my second family, thank you so much. For everything. Thank you guys. I love you all.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
