To my beautiful hometown, Davidson:
I have been living here (in the same house, actually) in Davidson, NC for going on 20 years. And in all honesty, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Davidson, you have proved to be the ideal town and have given me memories that I will never forget. I can never imagine calling anywhere else home when I have you to compare. It really has been the best place for me to grow up.
You’re small, but you still have access to so many things so closely. You are right on the lake and downtown Charlotte is only 30 minutes away. It really is the best of so many worlds around here. No matter what you want, you can find it in or around you. And I really love that. You provide so much for such a small area and that is really amazing.
Davidson, I can’t thank you enough for making my holidays the best of the best. Every holiday had a celebration… from Easter to Christmas, you could always find something happening on the Green. Oh and how can I ever forget the Halloween trick-or-treating down Main Street? I literally cannot imagine any holiday without going to Davidson to celebrate with our small community.
And your food… oh, your food. Restaurants have really developed in beautiful downtown and I just love the fact that you provide me with an amazing meal less than five minutes from my house. And it appeals to everyone: meat-lovers, veggie-lovers, vegan-lovers, ice-cream lovers… you really do have it all. And no one can ever go wrong with The Soda Shop… classic. A milkshake from there never fails to make my day. Every gets the best start to their day with a breakfast from Toast... and a great end to their day with a drink at Mestizo. And let's not even start on the beauty that is the Farmer's Market. You really do make my heart (and stomach) so happy.
Just to add to your greatness, you have the cutest and best shops for a small town. And yes, you are close to good malls, but just the shops alone can get me whatever I need. The Village Store and Main Street Books provided me with the best toys and books throughout my childhood and I can’t thank you enough for that.
You really have grown so much, from providing us with quality food to quality movie theatres. In all honesty, why go anywhere else when I can watch a movie in super comfortable chairs and have a glass of wine at Our Town Cinemas? People get their best work done enjoying a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone downtown. People get their best shopping done by walking less than half a mile down Main Street. People get their best memories sitting on the Green.
So, my dear Davidson, thank you. And although I may not be around as much as I’d like, and I may travel long and far away from you… you will forever be home and you will forever have my heart.
Love,
A Davidson Girl
