An Open Letter To My New College After My First Semester
West Chester University

West Chester University,

It happened, I FINALLY finished my first semester at a new college after transferring. How am I feeling about all of this? Well, it's very bittersweet. But mainly, I would like to say thank you for being the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Not only did you give me the most amazing memories, but you gave me the most amazing friends and relationships that I am so lucky to have.

I was so unhappy and sad until I came here and it was like a night and day difference in mood. I instantly felt so much happier and I can honestly say that I am where I belong. Each day I was excited to wake up, to go to classes, to see what my day would hold. Because, I knew that no matter what, I would have a day filled with friends and awesome memories would be made.

The friends you provided me with are people that I feel so blessed to have met. These friendships I made were able to make my transfer so much easier. In general, everyone I met was so genuine and kind, I couldn't have asked for anything more. I am so sad to have to leave these friends for a few months, and I cannot wait until we all can be back on campus with each other again.

I feel that for the first time in forever, I am on the right path for me. Transferring was able to make me truly be headed in the right direction, and West Chester helped me feel confident in where I was going. Everything is finally all falling into place and I credit everything to this change in universities.

So thank you, West Chester University, for giving me the most amazing semester. I made so many amazing memories with the most wonderful people. I feel that my education is going in the right direction. I know that you will help me find the "me" that I want to be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
