I miss you already.

A Letter To My BFF As College Starts Again
Amanda Fennell

Dear Best Friend,

Sadly, summer break is coming to an end, and school is starting again. Even sadder, you work on campus, so you go back a whole two weeks earlier than the rest of us. As we part to our different schools once again, I can't help but still be sad. Although not the most jam-packed summer, we still spend all three and a half months you were home adventuring and laughing together.

To start off the summer, we went to Disney World!! What a great way to begin. I had so much fun with you while we relived my sweet 16 birthday trip, just on our own this time. We ate so much food, rode a ton of rides, and laughed so hard our stomachs were on fire. Oh, not to mention only got a seat on the Disney transport buses ONCE. It was so awesome to have booked, paid for, and lived out our own vacation that we chose ourselves! Can we go back yet?

You never fail to come over and make things a party, even if you're just helping me clean or put away clothes. I'm going to miss calling you from up the street and telling you to walk over to my house.

I know it's not forever, but it sure feels like it sometimes. Rough patches and days I don't want to be around anyone but you are going to be hard, but when you come home for a long break again, it'll be worth it. If I had things my way, I would be visiting every weekend or vice versa.

When you come to visit in the fall, it will be fun, doing our favorite things like haunted houses and Halloween shopping! Those little fall breaks and weekends you can spare are not too long but are crucial because we can catch up, gossip about drama, and overall just have a great time together.

Somehow, everyone's college years are speeding faster than we can stop, which sometimes isn't a bad thing. Summer came and went before we even batted an eyelash, and this whole year will most likely do just about the same. God willing we don't have a repeat of the January we couldn't get rid of.

Before we know it, we'll be back home again complaining it's too hot and trying to figure out what bathing suit to wear in your pool. It might not come right away, but it'll be worth it all.

You've always been my partner in crime, and I wouldn't trade that for the world. I swear we should have just enrolled in the same University because now it's basically like we're sisters that accidentally got separated. However, when we're back together wreaking havoc in our old stomping grounds, it's like we never left each other.

I miss you already, even though it's only been a week since I last saw you. I can't wait to have so many more adventures, with you visiting me and me visiting you. We're going to adventure a million times more than last year, we have to one-up ourselves every time!!

Come visit soon, I love you!!

Love,

Your sister from another mister.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
