An Open Letter to Anyone Who Is Ready For the School Year to End

Dear stressed college student,

April came and went, and now us college kids are facing finals and moving out in the next few weeks. We are feeling a plethora of different emotions that we're having trouble juggling. We are all definitely excited to relax this summer, because who wouldn't be? Some of us might be sad that we are graduating and starting life in the scary real world. We might be a little anxious about finding a summer job or internship, or doing summer classes.

Not too mention professors have turned into drill sergeants and assigned so much work, which is enough to make anyone burst into tears. On top of studying for cumulative finals, they for some reason think you have time to complete other assignments: long papers, discussion boards, group projects and presentations, you name it! If you’re a college student reading this, I bet you have at least 1 paper due this week. You should probably get on that after you read this article.

It’s spring, so when the weather is nice, you want to go out and enjoy it. There are places to hike, things to see, and you'd much rather be spending your time exploring outside than in the library studying! You also want to have fun going out before you have to study and then go home for summer for your parents to possibly prevent you from doing so. But you have to make sure you finish all your work and studying before you can have fun. Basically, this means any ounce of motivation that was once in you has left.

There’s a whole lot of stressful things going on this time of year. Its easy to get overwhelmed with work and other responsibilities, but try not to let it consume your thoughts. It’s just a couple of tests, you’ll be fine! You made it through a whole year, don't give up now. Just keep looking forward to the end of the semester and summer.

Finals are important, but you need to put yourself first and make sure you’re well rested and healthy. No matter what anyone tells you, it's important for your personal mental health and sanity to make some time for yourself. Take breaks between studying and seriously get some sleep. Another big tip is to not procrastinate and wait to study the night before (even though that is probably what I’ll do).

It’s going to be rough but the week will be over before you know it and you’ll have a year of college under your belt. If you think about it, this year kind of flew by. I remember the first week of being a freshman like it was yesterday. It’s important to think about the journey, the friends and memories you made, and not just the destination. So, good luck with those finals and get hyped for summer, we’re so close!

From,

A fellow overwhelmed student

P.S. Summer ’16 is going to be great!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
