An Open Letter To My Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

Although we did not exactly start off on the right foot with each other, I am so very happy that we are where we are now. When we first met, neither of us would have either expected us to become acquaintances, let alone best friends. I have yet to meet someone who I can click with like you and it's honestly ridiculous how in sync we are. From countless hours of joking around and laughing with each other about the dumbest things, we always find a way to get a laugh out of each other at any given moment. It all started in sixth grade. The beginning of the year was strange, it was middle school, so of course it was going to be weird but being in a new school with all new people was exceptionally weird. I had begun to think I was not going to find any new friends while I was there but, that all would soon change. Seventh grade rolled around and we were finally getting settled into the new place, making friends left and right, and somehow you and I managed to fall in the same path and became friends before we even knew it.

Throughout high school, we had classes, lunches and study halls together. You introduced me to the wonderful world of color guard which soon became an activity we shared together and will always cherish. Hours of rehearsals, competitions, and bus rides together really bring people together and I wouldn't trade that for the world. Color guard became a huge part of our lives and will always be something that brought us closer together, and I have you to thank for that. Going from marching band state finals, to grand nationals, and then from Winter guard regionals, state finals, and finally worlds, I'm glad to have had you by my side.

As our freshman year of college rolled around we both went our separate ways, and were two hours apart from each other, but still somehow by sophomore year, here we are back at the same school and picking up right where we left off.

Thank you so much for being someone I can count on to be there to support anything, always make me laugh, and of course for being my best friend. Times are changing a lot, we both will go our separate ways but I'm so glad to have you by my side.

Sincerely,

Katie

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
