Netflix decided that the fan favorite show, One Tree Hill, would be leaving as of October 1 and to be honest, a lot of people are pissed.
One Tree Hill is one of the most iconic shows of our generation for so many reasons. It kicked off an era of the CW that brought us the remake of 90210, it brought us Gossip Girl and it made the switch from the family shows (Gilmore Girls being an example) to racy teen dramas that our parents were iffy about being on TV and unsure whether we should be allowed to watch.
One Tree Hill gave us epic love triangles, a desperate hope for true love and actually showed almost every single problem a teenager could face in it's first four seasons. It was raw and relatable and made teenagers feel understood and not alone. It was drama filled but heartfelt and at times, could be scary. It had everything a drama could want, plus more.
It also has an extremely strong following of fans. To this day, they hold annual conventions and people travel to Wilmington, North Carolina to take photos in front of the shops and where some of the show's most epic scenes were shot.
Some people lost all hope when the show pulled the fast-forward of four years from high school graduation to where the stars were after college (one of the first shows to successfully pull this off for multiple seasons). However, those seasons after college developed so much of the characters that we weren't ready to let go of and accept that college was it for them.
Also, if you check out twitter you'll see so many people were pulling for Netflix to change their minds about pulling this show. Some people have seen all 9 seasons multiple times and continue to re-watch the epic drama. Needless to say, it definitely is being watched on the streaming platform.
All in all, Netflix needs to bring this show back ASAP. It's perfect for binge-watching, for a good laugh, for a good cry and most of all, it's perfect for when you need to feel understood when you feel a little lost.
