Throughout my entire senior year of high school, I felt like I was wishing the days in my hometown away. At first, I couldn't wait until senior year. Then, I couldn't wait to get done my college applications. Next, I couldn't wait until senior trip, and, of course, graduation.
Looking back, I wish I would've known how quickly it was really flying by. Of course, at the time, it felt like time was dragging its feet.
If I could give just one piece of advice to the seniors who are getting ready to graduate, it would be to cherish the next few months before graduation and college; please, whatever you do, don't wish it away.
As I am writing this, the Class of 2017 from my hometown is on their trip to Disney. It feels like yesterday I was sitting in our school cafeteria seeing the signs posted each day that counted down the days until our senior trip. I can't help but get a sense of nostalgia as they all post pictures from Florida, and even just for a second, just wish that I was back in their position.
I love college and the past few months that I've spent here have been the best of my life. Even though I did not necessarily like high school while I was there, I still wish I would've taken it all in.
So, to the seniors, stop for a minute and just breathe. You will graduate and head off to college before you know it. You will be an adult soon enough. For now, enjoy the life that you have. Enjoy all of your best friends being at the same place at the same time. Enjoy the fun things you get to do as you're preparing to graduate. But please, whatever you do, don't wish it all away.
