Whether you are planning to discover a vintage winery or a wide variety of cuisines, Houston is the perfect destination to explore. However, there are some other destinations too that look tempting in Houston. But if you are looking forward to exploring the hills of the countryside or the golden-sand beaches within a short drive, you can plan a one-day trip from Houston and discover various specialties of these places. I have curated some places for a small getaway from Houston.

Start your day from Galveston Island (1 hour)

Galveston is the best place to hit the beach. With a one-hour journey to this amazing city, you will feel refreshed here in no time as this place has the vibe of party energy. The beauty of this attraction is the rooftop bars which serve a wide variety of cuisines with innovative drinks at the century-old Gaido’s. Along with the cuisines, there are various attractions located that you can explore, like Moody Gardens Historic Pleasure Pier in Houston. The standout feature of this museum is that it offers free days that are usually on the first Tuesday every month. If you are in town then you cannot miss exploring this zoo. It can be easily explored in one day.

Travel to the vibrant city of San Antonio (2 hours and 59 minutes)

San Antonio is a vibrant city with a variety of attractions. Explore the Alamo where Theodore Roosevelt recruited rough riders for the Spanish-American war. Here you can stroll through the popular Riverwalk area and pick from the wide variety of restaurants and shops. Also, to know more about the history and the architecture don’t forget to explore the downtown where you can get a deep insight into the architecture of the Cathedral of San Fernando which is also one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States. I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace.
