Summer means going outside, basking in the sun on the beach, eating a popsicle on a sunny day, and riding your bike around the
neighborhood. But what do you do on a rainy day? Watch or rewatch an old movie! Tons of new movies come out in the summer, but you shouldn’t
ignore the power of old classics. Below is a list of my own personal favorites.
1. Shrek. I re-watched this a few weeks ago and loved it. I was shocked by how many lines I actually remembered from watching it as a kid. There are also a ton of hilarious innuendos that you miss when you’re younger that suddenly make sense. Bonus points if you work on your imitation of Shrek, Lord Farquaad or Donkey. Well done, Eddie Murphy. I’ve never seen any of the sequels, but the original speaks for itself.2. The Mary Kate and Ashley Movies. These held a special place in my heart as a kid. I vividly remember sitting on my parents’ bed watching these movies for three days straight because of a snowstorm. My mom was practically begging the school to reopen so she could get my sisters and me off of her hands. If you do watch these again, it’ll shock you how much Holiday In The Sun is a promotion for vacationing in Atlantis and how little Mary Kate and Ashley are actually in it. Still, all are worth watching for old times’ sake.
3. The Parent Trap. If you are feeling nostalgic for pre-Hollywood Lindsay Lohan, this pick is for you. Feel free to sing along with, "L is for the way you look at me,” and laugh along with the many classic scenes in this movie, like the camp ear piercing, the cabin pranks and pushing the dad’s fiancé’s mattress into the lake.
4. Grease.
No matter how many times I watch Grease, I never get sick of it. I like how it takes you back in time when and how it instantly makes me wish I lived in the 50s. And the love story between Danny and Sandy is timeless. Be sure to swoon at Danny’s hair.
5. Gone With the Wind.
I’ve never actually seen this movie, but it’s definitely on my to-watch list. Keep in mind that it is really long, so save it for when summer boredom strikes and you need to kill time. This is one of those movies that everyone should watch, at some point in their life, because it is just that important in telling the story of the South during the Civil War, it really is a classic
