Don’t get me wrong, summer is great. I’m not big on hot weather but I get to spend time with my family and friends who I don’t see for roughly 75% of the year. I get to relax at home and not worry about impending weekly due dates for school. I also get to see my three dogs.
But I love fall.
Fall is football games and trying to spend as much time outside with your friends before it’s too cold. It’s hoodie-season, even if some afternoons it’s too hot to continue wearing one. Fall is the beginning of school and starting everything anew. Yes, fall is a rude awakening from relaxing all summer, but it’s almost nice to be busy again.
Fall turns into all my TV shows premiering in the same week. It becomes scary movies and Halloween costume-planning. Fall takes a turn to the dark side. More assignments are due and you start to realize the end of the semester is sooner than you thought. Thanksgiving goes by and exams are just around the corner. The official season of fall will end, even if the weather’s not changing much. But I’m perfectly fine with fall ending.
Because up next is winter.
Winter is cold, so cold that sometimes it hurts to walk to class. It’s exam season and every project and paper you can think of is due. Winter is long stretches of not talking to any of your friends because you’re studying and then saying goodbye to them for break. It’s all my TV shows going on a hiatus, only to come back when I’m busy with school again. Sometimes winter sucks.
But I still live for winters.
Winter is snow and lights. It’s that feeling of accomplishment when you complete a semester. Winter is wrestling season. I get time to be at school working for my college team then go home and watch my little brother compete. Winter is my family spending time together because we’re all cooped up in the house. It’s the holidays and spending New Years with my best friend. No matter how cold it gets outside, winter is always warm to me.
So summer, I’m done with the gross humid weather you’re still pushing on us. It’s fall’s turn, and then winter is coming.
