Oh That Jersey Weather

Have you ever wanted to experience all 4 seasons in 1 week? We have.

If you live in New Jersey or go to school here, you know that if there's one thing (out of the many) that makes no sense, it's the weather. While many people in different states may claim that their state has it worse in the weather department, it doesn't hold a candle to the true insanity that is weather in the state of New Jersey. It's definitely never been enjoyable in the past no matter the season, but thanks to our good old friend global warming the daily weather patterns of NJ have been even more crazy. And these past few weeks are just a small taste of what we can expect for the next few years to come.

Imagine waking up in the morning and not being sure whether to dress for a Nor'easter or for a beautiful spring day. That's how my mornings have been since winter break. There's no consistency with the weather; in this past week, we have had a 'spring shower', a 70 degree day, a snow storm, hurricane winds, and some mid-way days in between. That makes it nearly impossible to appropriately dress for the weather, especially when some of these options happen over the course of one day. On one particular day, I dressed warmer because it was windy and chilly, only to be sweating by noon. Another day I dressed in lighter clothes because I thought it would be nice, only to be freezing. That's how each of my days go, and I know I'm not the only Rutgers student struggling to dress themselves properly for the weather each day (if that's even possible).

If you've never had to experience the dramatic weather changes I've described above, I envy you. My daily life is a daily services of memes describing the weather, like the one with Phineas and Ferb, and I can't think of a single image that represents my life more. So if you're not a current inhabitant of New Jersey and may happen to come across this "interesting" state one of these days, just remember to pack every piece of clothing you own to ensure that you have something that could possibly be appropriate for whatever the weather decides to do that day. And if you're a fellow New Jerseyan like myself, just get ready for the long haul with this weather, because I have a feeling Mother Nature is not going to be too kind to us the rest of 2017. Who knows what else we could experience, I mean, we've already had every single season shoved into the first three months alone.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
