Thanksgiving and The Office: why shouldn’t America’s favorite holiday and favorite TV show be combined?
1. Michael Scott: gravy
Gravy, a sauce, is extra. The food doesn’t need it, but it makes the meal more delicious. That is Michael Scott. Just like gravy, Michael makes the show, and it would not be the same or “taste” as good without him. Michael likes to be involved in everything and stealing the show, and gets in everyone's business, just as gravy does getting mixed in to all the food. While still delicious, you can only have so much gravy before it becomes too much.
2. Dwight Schrute: pumpkin pie
If it is Thanksgiving, I am sure that Dwight is growing his own pumpkins, in addition to his very successful beet farm of course. Being invited to a Thanksgiving dinner would be an honor for Dwight and of course, he is going to bring a gift. The pumpkin pie is going to be fresh from the farm, just like Dwight. This seasonal pie only gets to come out and shine on the holidays, just like Dwight’s unique character gets to shine. Nothing compares to pumpkin pie like nothing compares to Dwight.
3. Jim Halpert: mashed potatoes
Who doesn’t love mashed potatoes? They’re always a crowd favorite, just like Jim Halpert. Mashed potatoes are always one of the first foods to go during Thanksgiving and everyone is always trying to get some. Jim Halpert is such a strong character, that just like mashed potatoes, he stands up on his own. His hilarious pranks and adorable relationship with Pam always leaves us wanting more.
4. Pam Beesly: sweet potato casserole (with marshmallows)
Sweet, buttery, warm, and of course, marshmallowy: this is Pam Beesly. Everyone is in love with her wholesome character. Just like sweet potatoes, she leaves a great taste in our mouth. Her charming character could be made of nothing better than sweet potatoes, good for you and taste good too.
5. Toby Flenderson: brussel sprouts
Either you love them or you hate them. Brussel sprouts are not found at every Thanksgiving meal, most likely because so many people are not a fan. Michael Scott probably hates Brussel sprouts, but not as much as he hates Toby. This bitter green vegetable, that is good for you, even when you don’t want to eat it, perfectly captures the essence of Toby’s character. No matter how many ways you try to spice Brussel sprouts up, they’re still just Brussel sprouts.
6. Meredith Palmer: apple cider
There is definitely some booze in this apple cider, so keep it away from the kids. The only thing fitting of Meredith is this festive holiday drink, that can be spiked to your liking. Meredith’s character packs a hard punch and has that spicy flavor that apple cider brings to the table.
7. Stanley Hudson: dinner rolls
A Thanksgiving staple, that ties the whole meal together and provides a little bite. Simple but delicious. This embodies Stanley. He is a man that appreciates the simple things in life but is not afraid to tell others when they are out of line. He’s got that hard crust on the outside, but fluffy inside.
8. Creed Bratton: green bean casserole
He’s just as crazy as this dish sounds. Everything gets thrown into a casserole, just like Creed’s character. Green beans, baked together with cream of mushroom soup and French fried onions, what a combination. It does not seem like these foods should work together, yet they do, just like the crazy character of Creed.
9. Ryan Howard: pecan pie
Not everyone likes pecan pie, some people are allergic, it is loaded with sugar, but it still made it to the meal. It isn’t at every meal and is not the most popular dessert, but the combination of crunchy and chewy and carmel-y pretty much sums up Ryan, especially how it gets stuck in our teeth.
10. Oscar Martinez: stuffing
This unique and delicious dish captures all the different and fantastic layers of Oscar. He often gets misrepresented, and this is because there are so many parts that make him up, just like there are many ingredients that make up stuffing. It is always a great side dish and never gets overlooked.
11. Kevin Malone: turkey
Turkey makes Thanksgiving just as Kevin makes The Office. Turkey is always a main part of Thanksgiving and sits in the middle of the table. His character is often the butt of a joke or the center of an issue. He is warm and lovable.
12. Andy Bernard: cranberry sauce
Like cranberry sauce, Andy is both tart and sweet! It brings a unique flavor to the meal just as Andy brings a unique character to the show! From his singing, to crazy love stories, to his anger management problems, Nard Dog packs all of the flavors in cranberry sauce, and is not afraid to get mixed in with all of the other dishes to be star of the meal.
13. Angela Martin: apple pie
Apple Pie, a traditional American dessert, just like Angela. Angela is very put together and clean cut, just like a slice of classic apple pie, with ice cream on top. Apple pie is the most plain and simple pie, fitting only for Angela.
