Hidden messages in popular advertisements are placed intentionally to mess with consumer's brains.
Advertisements are everywhere. Some are interesting, crazy, annoying, and/or clever. No matter what the company is trying to sell, having the right advertisement is important in getting consumers to buy anything. Even though ads are techniques used by corporations to lure people into getting their fix via television commercials, billboards, and magazines, advertisements should not be offensive.
It seems that for decades companies have done whatever it takes to get customers to purchase their merchandise. Ads target certain genders or age groups, and they often contain messages (either visible or hidden) which can be dirty, racist, misogynistic, or plain disturbing. The crazy thing is people see these advertisements frequently, but the subliminal messages are hidden from the public. If you think about it, these advertisements are more offensive than you might imagine.
Corporations look at advertisements as quick and easy ways to make money. They make it simple yet effective to capture the consumer's attention. The people who continue to watch these ads become fascinated by the colors, benefits of buying the product, and prices that are done in easy payments, but there is more to advertising than just that. Most businesses advertise to teenagers and adults as their target audience.
Businesses will include various strategies and techniques so customers will want to buy products. Examples include close-ups of food, logos with hidden messages, and suggestive material. There was a report that explained how brands hide secrets in their advertisements. While some messages are harmless "Easter eggs," there are others that are more offensive. Sometimes you have to look closer to see them.
Advertisements can offend people with pictures just like people do with words, actions, and social media posts.
Corporations who create advertisements realize what they are doing. Just like Internet trolls, their commercials will cause a backlash as a result of the disturbing content depicted.
Subliminal messages are powerful tools in advertising. Without them, brands would not sell merchandise as efficiently.
The messages enter the consumer's subconscious. The ads they see are just a sample of how products can make their lives better, even though brands have gotten into trouble in the past. Once they witness the miracles of these ads, consumers want to buy the products. Marketing works the same way as drugs. Customers try it once, become addicted, and want to buy more.
It seems the only way that advertisers know how to sell products is through sexual imagery.
If advertisements did not include sexual references, they might have fewer customers watching. According to Buzzfeed, there are popular brands with slogans that are very sexual and customers are not even aware of it. If these slogans were more honest, there is a higher chance that nobody would bother with any of these famous companies.
I understand customers buy products for many reasons. However, it is unnecessary for these ads to be offensive in any way just so customers will buy them. Just like a painting, what observers see might look exciting, but unless they start looking closer, they will never see the truth that is hidden beneath the surface.
