Vulnerability can get the best of a person, especially in difficult situations. When in doubt, it's best to remove yourself from them before things get crazy. It may be hard but you'll be better off once you do.
This poem is a reflection of an experience I went through that helped shape who I am. Although it was kinda suckish, I didn't let it get the best of me.
Grew sick and tired of feeling alone
Decided to mess around with apps on my phone
The attention from strangers gave me a rush
Yet I thought I needed an extra push
I began speaking in ways unnatural to who I am
Which could have created a bigger problem
Long and behold I connected with someone
And felt like I was having fun,
Though the damage would soon be done.
Went to converse sight unseen
It's hard to know exactly what you mean
The conversation hadn't gone on long
Our feelings for each other were growing strong
But clearly I was wrong
I didn't think I could be so easily fooled
Apparently I just got schooled
I got out with everything still intact
Just don't come around here or you will get smacked
With all the mixed signals I've been receiving
I don't know what we're achieving
Or what's worth believing.
I'd rather hear what you have to say rather than you say what I want to hear.
Can't all these stereotypes and assumptions just disappear?
We're perfect strangers with different lives
I am usually not one that dives
Into a situation like this where I don't know if you're true
It just felt good talking to you.
How can you know me better than I know myself?
We haven't even met
Your presence is something I cannot forget
It consumes my heart and soul
Now my number one goal
Is to recover
And rediscover
Who I was before we started talking
Now I'll take it with a grain of salt
I know it isn't all my fault
I saw the signs but ignored them anyway
Something led me astray
Maybe it was your profile picture or your laid back personality,
Or maybe it was just the fact you didn't know me
And I haven't experienced anything before
Real or not
It's worth a shot
I guess it's the thought that counts
