I think I've started, deleted, then restarted this article about six times. But here we go.
In keeping in theme with the new year bringing new beginnings, my life is completely changing in just a few short weeks. I've decided to transfer schools and move all the way across the country to beautiful Salt Lake City. I couldn't be more excited about this move, but this means saying goodbye to my current school, Denison, and leaving the Odyssey at Denison team.
I've said the word "bittersweet" more times than I can count to people when describing how I feel about transferring and moving. While Denison wasn't quite exactly the right school for me, I still acknowledge how lucky I was to go to such a wonderful school, full of amazing people that constantly inspired me and pushed me to do my best.
These amazing people included my fellow Odyssey writers at Denison. What a gift it was to be a part of such a talented group of writers. I have Odyssey to thank for a lot, and writing for Denison was an impactful part of my experience at Denison. Many of the friends I made was through Odyssey.
I still remember during the summer before my freshman year of college, I stumbled across a post on Facebook asking for writers to join Odyssey at Denison. My work had never been published, so the idea of having my words be public and available to read by people from all over was so incredibly exciting. Now, a year and a half later, two of my Odyssey articles have been published on Denison's website, and I'm set to be published in an educational textbook on Intersectional Feminism, which is, I would say, pretty darn neat.
Odyssey has made me fall in love with writing all over again and has solidified that writing is something I want to pursue professionally.
I could end this extremely sappy and sentimental article (but hey, what else did you expect from me?) by saying a bunch of cliches like "All good things must come to an end", but instead, here's some thank-yous.
Thank you to everyone who read my articles, that simple gesture kept me inspired to keep writing. Your comments and thoughts meant so much to me.
Thank you to the Odyssey at Denison team for being awesome and always amazing me with your humor, wit, and talent.
Thank you to everyone who has been supportive of this big step and life change. I appreciate more than you will ever know.
Thank you Odyssey for providing a platform where my words could be shared.
I'll leave you with my favorite quote about writing from the one and only Maya Angelou,
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
