10 Things That Are More Than A Little Odd About College Spring Breaks

First of all, it is neither spring nor a sufficient number of days to truly be considered a break.

College spring break. What is it really? First of all, it is neither spring nor a sufficient number of days to truly be considered a break, at least in my personal opinion. Yes, a week is a pretty long time off, and yes spring starts literally a day after we get back, but it's definitely still winter right now. It snowed last week and if we're considering this a "spring break," I'm not really sure that snow should still be happening. So, here are just a few of the many things that are definitely a little odd about college spring breaks.

1. It's not actually spring. As in, it's still winter.

It's literally not even the correct season. Maybe something like "almost spring break" would be a little more fitting because right now I just feel confused as to why the week before spring is the week for spring break.

2. All colleges seem to have break at different times.

I'm pretty sure almost every other school had their spring break last week, and I can't lie, I'm a little sad about not being able to see any of my friends over break.

3. I won't consider this a long enough time off.

Okay, so it's a week and that's a long time off, but it's been so long since I've been home from school and I really just wanna sit here for a little bit longer before I have to go back to exams and sadness.

4. It's too cold outside to do normal "spring break" things.

Remember when I said that it's still winter? Well, that makes normal spring break things like going to the beach or going swimming just a little bit harder. Also, it's still snowing and that's just a little too weird for me.

5. There is still plenty of homework to do over break.

I still have multiple books to read and applications to fill out, but I guess now's as good a time as any to start doing them.

6. There are also plenty of exams to take when school starts back.

Also, I still have to study. It's a great time.

7. Everyone else is at work or school, so you're basically home alone.

My parents, my sister, basically everyone else has things to do, so even though they might take some time off to spend with you, you're bound to be alone at some point.

8. You could take a vacation, but it'd be pretty chilly.

We went to the beach, and as good of a time as it was, it also probably wasn't the best time to go to the beach. Yes, I got sunburned, but yes, it was in the fifty degree weather that college spring break offers.

9. You probably should do homework, but you probably won't do any.

I know I have a lot of work to do, but I also know that I'll still probably wait until Sunday night before classes start back to do it. What can I say, I really needed a break.

10. It's gone too soon, and before you know it, you're going right back to school.

Faster than you can blink an eye, you're getting in your car and going right back to school, which is more than a little sad.

In any case, spring break at least gives you some time to catch up on sleep (or TV shows), see your family, and maybe even take a little vacation, even if it's still cold enough to snow outside.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
