I Fell Face First Into An Obsession With BTS

I fell into a massive trap, and it might just be one of the best things that have ever happened.

So the past two weeks have been pretty wild for me, and not just because I returned to college. The details are a little blurry, but some time around midnight on one of my last nights of freedom from school, I fell into a massive trap, and it might just be one of the best things that have ever happened.

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a huge weakness for boy bands. I'll listen to any of them, from any decade, any aesthetic, any sound, I just love them. And even if I'm just a casual fan— which I admit is pretty rare— I will have a favorite song and a favorite member, and these details become an actual facet of my personality. Above all else, I am a massive fangirl. I'm sure someone out there relates.

BTS has been on my radar for years now. And honestly, from the first glance, I knew they had the potential to ruin my life in the best way possible. While I was in high school, my devotion was pretty equally split between academics, marching band, and One Direction, so I didn't think I really had the time or the energy to dive into yet another obsession with another boy band.

Really, I'm just as busy now as I was back then. But I guess between the break from school and the (seemingly endless) One Direction hiatus, my resolve weakened. And I figured, "Well, YouTube keeps on recommending this video. I'll watch it, get this vague interest out of my system, and that will be that."

And that was just the beginning of my descent into madness. Somehow I've compressed years of fan culture into two weeks, and I'm a bit of a mess. Literally, everything about this group is amazing: the music, the varying aesthetics, the dancing (oh my goodness, the dancing), the memes, and I can't even pick my favorite part of the whole ordeal. It's just this beautiful, fun, overwhelming roller coaster, and I'm totally here for it.

Anyway, that's my little fangirl episode for the week. I'm going to go listen to the new album to remind myself of the importance of self-love as I tackle more college homework.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
