A Thank You To President Obama

The iconic Obama-Biden duo have left the office. The pressure is now on Donald Trump and Mike Pence to continue to make America a place of freedom and prosperity. Eight years ago, Barack Obama promised our country many improvements. Over the course of his eight years as POTUS, these are just a few highlights of what Obama has accomplished:

1. Veteran Homelessness was cut in half

2. Passed Health Care Reform (Affordable Health Care Act)

3. Ordered special forces to eliminate Osama bin Laden

4. Allowed the LGBTQ community to openly serve in the military

5. Created nearly 3.7 million jobs through passing the Stimulus and continued to pass Mini-Stimuli to create even more jobs throughout his term

6. Signed the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act (2009) which protects acres and acres of wildlife

7. Passed the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act (2010) which required schools to boost how many fruits, veggies, and grains they gave in their lunches

8. Saw the first Hispanic woman to serve on the Supreme Court

9. Signed the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act (2009), which says that companies must warn their customers before any fees and rising rates (including interest rates)

10. Ended the war in Iraq in 2011 and started bringing home troops from Afghanistan

Obama, your wise way with spending government money has given the United States many long-term benefits for the future. Your kind heart has won so much peace for our country. There is always room for improvement in the future, though, and we hope that President Donald Trump will continue such a classy, intelligent president's legacy.

Thank you, Obama.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
