Dear Mom and Dad,

For the past 20 going on 21 years, you guys have made so many sacrifices for me just so I could succeed, and I am forever grateful for that. I know there can be times where I can be a pain in the ass, or it seems like I am unappreciative of you guys, but deep down inside I hope you know I really do appreciate you both because there is no way I would be where I am today if it wasn’t for you guys.

I can’t wait for the day that I become successful so I can repay you guys for all the years of putting up with me, but unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to buy you guys each a brand new car, a private island and 100 Million dollars because you guys deserve all that and more for all the years of being patient with me. Even though I know sometimes I drove you guys crazy. But nevertheless, I appreciate your patience with me.

Mom, thank you for all the times you helped me with homework, stayed home from work to take care of me when I was sick, make my lunches for me every day, do my laundry, and above all for being an amazing mom.

As I look back over the years, you really did everything for me and always pushed me the extra mile to strive for greatness in school and I am so grateful you did because I have no idea where I would be without your help. Like I said before, I know it may seem like sometimes I can be bratty and unappreciative but even on my bad days, I hope you know I love you more than anything mom. And I hope I make you and dad proud because that is all I ever want.

Dad, thank you for being an amazing coach, role model and of course, thank you for being an amazing father. When it came to sports, there was nothing I loved more than shooting hoops on the driveway with you, playing catch in the backyard, or even pitching to me before one of my baseball games. You always joke with Dave and I and say that “we won the lottery having you as a dad” and although it was a joke, you were right because we did.

You always went the extra mile to ensure my success in sports and I really appreciate all the hours you spent helping me practice and even giving me pep talks to help me build up my confidence.

As I grow up, I realize not everyone gets to have a dad in their lives and it really makes me appreciate you even more. I know I may sound repetitive but it’s true, I know I may seem unappreciative of you and mom but deep down inside I really do love you more than anything and I am grateful for all the things you have done for me.

I may sound just a little biased, but I really do have the best parents in the world and I won the lottery having you guys for parents. You guys have given me all that I’ve asked for any more, you both have been there for me when I needed it, and you guys have been my number one supporters no matter what.

So Mom and Dad, thank you guys for always being my number one supporters. I love you both very much.

Love always.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
