An Open Letter to my Best Friend

Thanks for always being by my side

233

Dear Best Friend,

You came into my life at a time when I didn't want to let anyone else in, little did I know how much you would end up meaning to me. I didn't realize how much doing yoga in sophomore year gym class with a girl I just met would eventually change my life.

First of all I want to thank the girl that brought us together. Even though she eventually turned into someone we no longer talk to, its all because of her that I met my best friend. If I wouldn't have signed up for that gym class with her, who knows what we would both be doing right now.

We have the type of friendship that will last us a lifetime. We can go days without talking because we don't feel the need to constantly check up on the other one, we need to live our own lives and we both know that spending every waking moment with someone doesn't always turn out to be a good thing.

We've been through a lot together, through the high school friend drama, the boy drama to even the family drama you've stuck by my side through it all and for that, I can't even begin to thank you enough.

Thank you.

Thank you for welcoming me into your life with open arms and for never leaving. When we first became friends, we were standing in the locker room before gym class and we were talking about all the past friendships we've had that didn't work out. You looked at me and said " just so you know, if somehow we ever end up not being friends anymore, I'm always here for you no matter what. I want you to know you always have somebody to talk to" and you meant it. When we ended up not talking for a year because I left a mutual friend group, the only hard part was leaving you in that group. But I called you and asked you to get lunch about a year later and well here we are now.

Together we successfully graduated high school, high-fived the Backstreet Boys, FGL, Nelly, and Chris Lane. We survived a 3 hour road trip in a snow storm, a summer spent being yelled at by your sister to drive her everywhere under the sun, but we did it all together.

College hasn't been the best thing for us. Having to live 2 hours away from someone I've lived 10 minutes away from for the past 4 years of our friendship hasn't been great but if anything we've grown closer.

Thank you for everything you've done and continue to do for me.

Sincerely,

Your Best Friend

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
