Now That The Holidays Are Over...

We should really just fast forward to the summer

Now That The Holidays Are Over...
Anna Russo

Now that the holidays are over, we've all come to a few conclusions.

One, we are about to enter the coldest 2 months of the entire year.

Two, it would never be the holiday season without some family drama.

Three, no one likes the ending of the holiday season, but everyone loves the calm it brings on.

The frenzy for gifts is over, each family member has returned to their rightful towns, cities, states, country's, and everyone above the Mason Dixon line is about to experience the most bitter cold of the year.

Ugly Christmas sweaters, candy canes, and stockings are all packed up and put away for the next 340 days and on top of all that, students are getting ready to return to school to finish out the academic year whether they are ready to or not.

Now that the holidays are over, it's basically a grind until May comes and we have something to actually look forward to again.

January to mid-April is pretty depressing. Temperatures usually do not surpass 25 degrees. If you're in college, the school simply never gets canceled (even if there's a blizzard outside). There's not much else to do but watch Netflix and stay in and while it's nice to relax and take a break from life every once in a while, it starts to get boring.

However, once mid-April comes it's like the world is being reborn. Each of us escapes the confines of our houses/dorms and start to enjoy the outside again. The best feeling is the 50-degree weather after being in the negatives all winter (shoutout to my Syracuse people).

If you're like me, you're all glad that the house is filled with your immediate family and not extended family anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love them all, but being woken up at 6 a.m. on the daily because the time change in Europe is messing them up here in the States, not exactly how I want to spend my break. The drama unfolded, people got angry, and people forgot about it and went home, what a beautiful cycle.

Similar to conclusion number two, now that the holidays are over, no one feels rushed anymore. Running to the mall because you forgot to buy a gift for someone or the random but personal life questions at the dinner table has come to an end.

The season of shelling out cash you do not have for gifts is over, and we can all enjoy a little R&R before our next big worry comes along.

Personally now that the holidays are over, I only have a few things getting me through the rest of this academic year: Spring break and Syracuse basketball season. While my body says -8 degrees and marshmallow jackets, my mind is on May and bikinis and beach days.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
