The semester is at its midpoint and many of us are starting to lose our motivation. The light at the end of the tunnel is almost here, but we still have work to take care of. Now is the time many of us need to get serious about grades. After all, the last few papers and assignments can make or break your GPA. Here are a few methods to get over the November slump:
1. Create a to-do list and update it daily.
To-do lists are helpful for anyone who has difficulty remembering due dates (read: everyone). Whenever you feel bored, check your to-do list to motivate yourself to do work.
2. Create a point system.
Here's an example of one I made:
3. Set small goals, not large ones.
Instead of saying, "I have to write this 10-page paper by Monday," try "I'll write one page by the end of today." Having manageable goals over the course of several days will help you keep your sanity when it comes to dense projects.
4. Set rewards for yourself.
Promise yourself that if you ace your paper, you'll buy the outfit or new video game you've been wanting. If you don't make your goal, stick to your guns and try again for the next assignment.
5. Give your roommate your phone and laptop for a certain amount of time per day.
Having your phone and the internet just a touch away is too much of a temptation for some of us. Give your roommate your phone for a set amount of time so you are forced to do work. If you do not need your laptop to study, then give that to your roommate too. Boredom is an efficient way to force yourself to study.
