Growing up, I've always been thrown into situations that have tested my maturity and how far I am willing to step out of my comfort zone. My mother, an adventure fanatic, was often the one putting me in these situations. I won't go into to many details (as much as I'd love to sit here and write about the joys of geocaching...don't ask), but these situations have come with me into adulthood and have made me have a much deeper appreciation for life and new situations.
Without going into the full-fledged story, my mother got into Crossfit. Now, I'm sure when most of you think of Crossfit, you think of flipping tires and crazy ripped guys throwing unimaginable weight onto a bar and grinding it out. I'm sure you think that you obviously would never be able to do that.
Don't let the tire flipping fool you. I mean sure...there is some of that involved, but Crossfit is not above ANYONE'S level. When I tell people I do Crossfit, I usually get a sarcastic laugh or a "yeah, right". It's a little offensive. Like okay...yes I am barely 5 feet tall, and yes I only weigh 105 pounds, but that doesn't mean anything. From this...I've learned one of the most valuable life lessons.
My mother "getting into Crossfit" turned into her owning her own Crossfit gym. When my mom does something, she does it 100%, so it came as no surprise when I found out her and her boyfriend would be the new owners of Crossfit Paulding. I started coming there to workout, and was intimidated (to say the least) just by walking in the door. I am a perfectionist, and I don't like it when I'm not good at something off the bat. Crossfit has been the first workout that has truly pushed me to my limits and beyond.
From Crossfit...I have found great strength. Like any other workout...I go through slumps where I don't go to the gym for a few weeks (if we are being honest, months). However, as soon as I'm back in the gym, I'm reminded of why I come all of the time.
My mother has set an example for me that I would like to pass on to all of you. If something seems scary and like it's too hard, you should absolutely do it. Nothing is above you. You can do anything, and so don't let the tire flipping of Crossfit fool you, or anything else in life that seems to tall to tackle. You're not going to progress in life if you stay inside of your bubble. Do the things that make people laugh sarcastically at you or shake their head because they think you're joking. You have to set an example for everyone else and show them that nothing is above your level. You can do absolutely anything you set your mind to.
