Notes To Myself

Just some friendly advice to me and whoever else reads them.

This year I wrote a lot of sticky notes to myself and put them where I could see them every day. I was so proud because I did so many of them, and they were so good (ignorance, if I do say so myself)! But I think everyone should see them!

1). “Life is tough but so are you!”

2). “It’s okay- MAKE THEM LISTEN next time!!!”

I got this from an episode of “The Waltons.” If you feel like someone isn’t listening to you- make them listen to you!

3). “Whatever it is, don’t worry about it! Just worry about what you need to do now!!!”

If you had a bad day, if something didn’t go the way you planned or hoped, don’t worry about it. Just focus on what makes it better- worrying doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles.

4). “People are fickle. They will love you some days, but not so much on other days. The only constant in this world is Jesus.”          -Sadie Robertson, “Live Fearless”

5). “Do not be afraid, [insert name], as you’re facing [insert situation] because the Lord is with you.”          -Sadie Robertson, “Live Fearless”

Sadie’s been an inspiration to me since I’ve read that book by her.

6). “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”      -Babe Ruth

7). “He sees the best in you when you feel at your worst... Don’t ever doubt His love for you...He had the solution before you had the problem... you’re closer than you think you are... maybe you just haven’t seen it yet.”

Song lyrics for “Haven’t Seen it Yet” by Danny Gokey. My small group played it and I couldn’t stop listening to it- it related so much to how I feel sometimes!

8). “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”    -Philippians 4:8

9). “Give your worries to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will never let good people down.”         -Psalm 55:22

10). “Be still and know that I am God.”         -Psalm 46:10

I wondered for a long time what this verse meant, and once I did I had a deeper appreciation for it. It is now one of my favorites!

11). “Life can get really hard. But God does not waste anything- not even the bad things.”

I got this quote from a movie. I think it means that whatever happens, God intends for good. He will make things right again- in His timing, which works best. There is good that comes from everything.

12). “You. Are. Loved!”

I think I wrote this one after listening to Josh Groban's song “Don't Give Up," which made me emotional- another song I can relate to.

13). “Happiness is about what is going on around you. Joy is about the state of mind within you.”         -Sadie Robertson

14). “Who are you? Where are you going? How are you going to get there?”

This has to do with a message I got one night- sermon, really. Figure out your ambitions in life, figure out how you can do it. You CAN do what you put your mind to!

15). “You are not stupid. You are AMAZING!!!”

This has to do with kind of a personal story of mine- almost a testimony. Just a reminder to all that the devil sometimes makes bad thoughts (lies, really) like “I’m stupid” sound first person, and make you believe them.

16). “Not today, Satan!”

Everyone should be at least thinking this!

17). “Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.”             -Luke 1:45

18). “Lord, I put all my trust in you!”

If you trust the Lord, and give yourself to Him, it gives you a sense of peace- enough said.

I was proud to show these notes off, and I must say they helped me at times- especially when finals came around.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
