A Note To Rutgers Class Of 2020
Megan Foell

I want to begin by saying congratulations! Your admission to Rutgers is a fantastic achievement. Just last year I was in your place, both excited and nervous for the future. Looking back, I could not have chosen a better place to call my “home away from home” than the state university of New Jersey. As a current sophomore at Rutgers, I can assure you that making the choice to attend Rutgers is not one that you will regret.

I am an out-of-state student from Thomaston, Connecticut. Thomaston is the epitome of a small town; I graduated with a class of only 60 students! At first, coming to Rutgers seemed intimidating. I did not know a single person from home who would be attending with me, nor did I have any idea how I would find my way among a sea of more than 40,000 undergraduate students from all over the country and world. Considering this, many people asked why I chose Rutgers. I always gave the same answer. I decided that I would embrace this opportunity with all the benefits, opportunities and challenges that came along with it.

Not everyone has the privilege to be able to attend a school like Rutgers that boasts both diversity and inclusivity. Some do not have the privilege to attend college at all. It is important for you to take advantage of everything that Rutgers has to offer. You will meet people who change your life, have the opportunity to learn limitlessly both in and out of the classroom, and harness your potential to do amazing things. Ultimately, you will grow into the person you are meant to be. All of this, however, will not be handed to you. You must take on each and every day with passion and spirit, like a true Scarlet Knight.

I understand your doubts. Yes, Rutgers is big, in every sense of the word. Yes, Rutgers can be confusing. Yes, there are times I miss home. However, at the end of the day, I know that I made the right choice in attending Rutgers, and I know that you will, too. I would not change a single thing about my experience over the past year. Whether you are reading this from across the state, country or globe, I want to personally welcome you to Rutgers — this is “R” house.

Best Wishes,

Megan

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
