I Am Not A Feminist

I believe in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes, but do not define myself as a Western Feminist.

I Am Not A Feminist
Morgan McKinley

I am a woman. I believe in equal rights. I love men, women, children and any human being. But, I do not, and will not defy myself as a western Feminist.

Western Feminists tend to protest and perform activism on issues that really, if you look at big pictures, aren't what should be fixed right now. There are so many other problems in the world that feminists, as well as anyone else should be focused to change other than paying for a box of tampons, freeing the nipple and even man-shaming. But isn't the point of being a "feminist" to fight for all genders rights and oppressions? I don't hear or see any feminist fighting for men's oppression of providing for the entire house-hold, do you?

Instead, I like to call myself a gender-power enthusiast. I love when women strive to be the best they can be: doing what they want, for whoever they want. If you want to wear makeup because YOU feel pretty with it, then do it! If you want to be the President of the United States, DO IT! Even when men excel in something, I love it! Why can't we encourage and be happy for everyone?!

If you do see yourself, and even call yourself a feminist, that's totally okay. And if you are an activist for issues other than the one's listed above, good for you! But maybe you are a feminist who has participated in a protest for freeing the nipple, and that's perfectly okay. Like I said, do what you want for who you want! But, just please know that ARE other issues out there, and we can even work on them together.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
