I’m Not Scared Of Trump, I’m Scared Of "Trump Culture"

I am not scared of Donald Trump.

He’s an angry, thin-skinned, fear-mongering, bigot of a man. A man who’s running for one of the most important political offices in the world, but just a man nonetheless.

What I am scared of is the culture that Trump has directly benefitted from, and radicalized even further. While America strives to make itself better and continue on its way in the 21st century, Donald Trump is aiming to send us straight back to the 1950s.

It’s no secret to anyone that Donald Trump says whatever he wants, often without thinking. He says that he doesn’t have time for “political correctness,” but what looks to be apparent is that he most likely just doesn’t have time for some simple human decency. A normal person may argue that we need to have higher security at our borders. Trump, instead proposed an illogical and unbelievable plan to build a wall on the border between the U.S. and Mexico, all the while calling Mexicans criminals and rapists. A normal person may argue that we need to spend more time preventing terrorism. Donald Trump irresponsibly attacks the entire religion of Islam for the work of a few radicals that represent all Muslims in the same way that the KKK represents all white people. Trump over sexualizes women - including his own daughter, and pays them less despite attesting to close the wage gap. He won’t take a stand on marriage equality, but chose a VP candidate that wears his bigotry like a badge of honor.

All of this hate and racism and sexism and xenophobia wouldn’t be a problem if it was just one, loud, orange man that believed in all of it. The problem is that some people shared this kind of hate long before Trump came around. But Trump has capitalized on ignorance, fear-mongering, and desperation to pull people into the cycle of hate and bigotry. Now he has a following, which could spell disaster for America.

It’s this kind of organized hate that radicalizes people like Omar Mateen and inspires more contempt for the U.S. in terrorist groups abroad, including ISIS. It’s that kind of hate that threatens to overturn marriage equality, and strip rights from millions of LGBT people in the United States, turning them into second class citizens again. It’s that kind of hate that solidifies the wage gap and gender discrimination women face every day in our country. It’s that kind of hate that puts fear into all of Muslim-Americans, African-Americans, and many other groups of minorities. Trump has encouraged Russia to hack the United States. He plans to abandon our allies in Europe. He’s created a movement that thrives off of fear, ignorance, and hate. It’s this movement that is terrifying to me.

I get it, this election is not a fun time for America. Hillary Clinton is not the candidate of my dreams by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t think she will be the greatest President we’ve ever had, but I do believe she could make some positive social changes. At the very least, she doesn’t risk putting America in the center of World War III, or inciting enough hatred to create another Civil War.

So I’m asking you to consider casting your vote for Hillary Clinton, instead of Donald Trump this November. Instead of a third party candidate. Instead of writing someone in. Vote for her to prevent the next three openings on the Supreme Court from being filled by bigots. Vote for her to promote marriage equality, equality between races, and equality between those of different religions. Vote for her to protect a women’s right to her body, and to begin closing the wage gap. Vote for her because she is the only person who has a chance of taking down Donald Trump and his movement of hatred and bigotry that is the biggest threat this country has seen in a very long time. I know it’s not ideal, and most people aren’t happy about it, but please - Vote for Hillary Clinton. I’m with her.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
