I'm Not Okay: An Open Letter To Trump Supporters

Dear Trump Supporters,

I am not okay.

I am not okay with the decision you've made. Well, I should say "the decision the electoral college made," because let's face it, Hillary won the popular vote. However, each and every single person who voted for him is also responsible. You are now responsible for his actions, and I hope you have a lot of space in your conscience, because you're going to need it.

I am not okay your sympathy. You've made your bed; now lie in it. Don't expect absolution from the billions of people now fearing for their lives. Don't expect them to brush it off because of past friendship. Your disregard for my life is enough to end any friendship. And while we're on the subject of sympathy, I don't need your patronizing "be safe" statements when I go out to protest. It's simply an admission that I have something to fear by voicing my opinions. If you really cared about my safety, you would have voted differently.

I am not okay with your own cry for sympathy. If people are labeling you as racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., you don't have the authority to dismiss their claims. You don't get to decide that you're not racist. Minorities decide that for you. All you can do is modify your words and actions accordingly.

I am not okay with your statements that "everything will be fine." How wonderful it must feel to be so privileged that this election doesn't affect you. It must be great to be a white, cisgender, straight man of considerable means right now. I'm sure that for you, the sun has never shone brighter. However, as a bisexual woman trying to make it through college on student loans, you might understand where I take issue with your complacency.

I am not okay in general. I fear for my safety, and I fear for the safety of my friends and loved ones. I fear an increase in hate crimes, now that hate has been validated on a national scale. I fear for the safety of our country as a whole, now that your president has access to the nuclear codes. I fear for the little girls who looked up at the TV to see a strong woman trying to break the ultimate glass ceiling, only to be silenced by a man accused of rape and sexual assault. They are too young to be cynical.

I am not okay, and I never will be.

Sincerely,

A Woman Fearing For Her Safety

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
