I have been 21 for six months now and let me tell you, alcohol is everywhere. I'm not a big partier but I have been to a few parties and alcohol is always a big component at almost every party. The people who choose not to partake in drinking are often looked down upon or even pressured into drinking. That is the society we live in. There are people who don't look down upon or pressure and those are the best people. Those are the people to look up to and follow in their footsteps.
People like to do their own thing at parties and being practically forced into drinking at them takes that away. People who need alcohol in their system to have fun are not living life the right way. It is absolutely okay if you want to drink at every party if that is what you want to do but don't depict what other people should do.
We, as a society, act like drinking is almost a necessity and that is outright terrifying. Some people don't like to drink and some only like to drink small amounts. There is nothing wrong with those people and they shouldn't be treated as if there was. If people want to get drunk, then they can go ahead as that is what they want to do. They may be having the time of their life and that is absolutely okay.
If people pressure you to drink, don't give in. Never let anyone tell you how you should be enjoying yourself. Don't let people tell you to let loose. You control your own actions and nothing should change that.
Maybe one day people will learn that alcohol isn't needed for a good time for everybody. Maybe people will finally begin to understand that everyone is different. I wish we would have already reached that point in time but unfortunately, that is not the case. We'll get there one day and hopefully, that day is soon.
