‘Tis the season to get out your parkas, little snow booties, fuzzy pullovers, and beanies. All of your friends and peers are either pulling out their hair over finals or are already back home binge watching Netflix. You’ve probably already heard "All I Want for Christmas is You” 500 times. If you’re from the Midwest, like I am, snow flurries have already started making an appearance. Don’t get me wrong, I love the winter holiday vibes. I love snuggling up with family and friends and giving them gifts. Not to mention, my birthday is on the 21st of December.
There is one aspect of winter that I am not particularly fond of, however. I cannot stand cold weather. Some individuals thrive in dropping temperatures and at the first sight of snow. I am most definitely not one of those people. Nearly every time I walk outside my eyes start profusely watering, so I really like to claim that I am allergic to cold weather. I don’t think that is humanly possible, but I’m still holding onto the far-fetched notion.
I have talked to many of my friends and peers about how I intend to pack my bags and head out West after I graduate college. I would love to live in California or Arizona. I just want to live in a place where I will not have to deal with a significant amount of snow and cold weather. I love sunshine and warm weather, and I could easily give up the winter cold to have it year-round. When I say this to others, there are a few that agree with me, but a vast majority get all up in arms. Some people really cannot imagine living life without a snowy holiday season.
I would gladly Christmas carol on the beach and sip on frozen hot chocolate while tanning. I know it is a rather unpopular opinion and might not seem very festive, but I just cannot bear with the cold. So, I will stick it out for a few more years of wearing 7 layers of clothing and at least three pairs of socks every time I leave the house, but after that I truly wouldn’t mind if I never got stuck in another white Christmas. I feel the merry holiday spirit comes from within and who you are surrounded by. I don’t believe that snow has to be a deciding factor in how festive the season can be.
