We have all heard the Arkansan stereotypes—hillbillies, rednecks, trashy sports fans. Ring a bell? When you actually get to know Arkansas, these ideas couldn't be further from the truth. I love Arkansas and plan to live here all my life. Here's why you should take a visit.
1. The Scenery
Arkansas isn't called "The Natural State" for nothing. This is at Buffalo National Park, but on any given fall day, you can drive by gorgeous changing trees and grassy parks that reel you in the longer you look.
2. The Adventure
Arkansas is filled with amazing rivers and lakes that just beg for you to enjoy. Kayak on the Buffalo, or ski in Beaver Lake; the options for adventure are endless.
3. The History
If you're a history buff, this is for you. A battle of the Civil War was actually fought in Pea Ridge, just outside the bigger cities. You can tour through the National Park and see where soliders fought and lived—pretty cool if you ask me! Northwest Arkansas is also the home of Walmart. You can visit Sam Walton's first store in downtown Bentonville to see where the international business began.
4. The Food
Northwest Arkansas is filled with amazing restaurants for locals and tourists alike to choose from. Pictured is the Pork Shanks from The Rail Pizza Company in Rogers (I definitely recommend them). If you aren't looking for pizza and wings, you can find food ranging from amazing sushi to gourmet tacos to perfectly cooked steaks. The options are endless!
5. The Sports
Of course we all know and love the Arkansas Razorback athletic program, but NWA has even more to offer. The Arkansas Naturals are a Minor League Baseball Team located in Springdale and their mission is to entertain their fans, big and small. They have games and swing sets for the kids and the traditional baseball fun for the adults. Seriously, going to a Naturals game will be some of the most fun you will ever have.
6. The Shopping Scene
Downtown shopping is amazing. Small town boutiques are filled with unique finds, from Southern favorites to funky modern styles. I recommend visiting Maude and Riffraff in Fayetteville, Kate Austin in Bentonville, Valere Rene Handbags in Rogers, and Euna Mae's in Springdale. There is so many fun stores to explore in this area.
7. The Entertainment
The Walmart AMP in Rogers has brought amazing acts to the NWA area. Artists from Foster the People to Miranda Lambert to Hozier have visited the area to give locals a great show. Tickets are available at all price ranges; get up-close and person in the front row or have a relaxing good time on the lawn. The shows are sure to impress.
There are so many opportunities in Northwest Arkansas. Whether you are a foodie or outdoorsman, you are sure to find comfort in the gorgeous towns. I guarantee you will have a great time.
