College So Far Has Been Pretty 'Normal', And I'm So Thankful For That

University is supposedly when everything changes for a person. How a person thinks, acts, or even their intellectual side improves. I want to take you on an insightful journey of my experience as a college student so far. The way I approached college might have been different from many people but here's my experience.

Yes, like every other freshman I was lost on my first day of university and did get stared at for a couple of seconds when I walked in the room late. Every freshman experiences that. Every freshman I knew or saw were all trying to make friends on the first day however in my experience I didn't want to make friends the very first day of class. I was and still am an introvert.

I don't like socializing a lot and don't always like being surrounded by people. I value the time I have alone. During the summer, however, I did find an organization on campus that I was passionate about.

The organization I joined was EMU Odyssey. This organization fit all my needs and so I started writing and just knowing my content gets published and what I want to say is finally getting out there makes me happy and feel accomplished. This organization does play a huge part in my college experience. The people who are also a part of this group have impacted my life and experience for the better.

Moving forward I started classes and the majority of my professors are amazing. The content is also interesting. Also during the weeks so far I have made friends and they are good people to be around.

I would say I am having a good experience and that I did have experience beforehand to guide me when I did go to University. I already had the experience of being in college but not the experience of being a full-time student. I also had some embarrassing moments on campus already.

An embarrassing moment happened to me recently and still remember it vividly. Here is a little insight on that particular experience: As I was walking from the library to the student center I kept almost tripping on sidewalk cracks. The last time I almost trip was when I was drinking water and chocked because of practically almost falling.

Everyone does go through embarrassing things and as winter is coming many people might have an embarrassing moment just slipping on ice. What matters is not what is embarrassing but creating all these memories that you can take with you when you graduate and see yourself as someone who achieved something in life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
