Don't just out your nights and forget to live out your faith

1 Corinthians 10:12-13
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

College is full of temptation. Saturday nights lead to Sunday's spent in bed rather than praising the Lord. I live out my nights and forget to live out my faith. The time we need God the most, we push Him aside. Sometimes we get caught up in the typical college life and miss out on what is really important. So, why do we give up on something eternal in exchange for college? Why do we think we have to give anything up?

A factor in faith might be the influence of the people who surround you. When your friends don't support your faith, their bad habits start to become your bad habits. Your friends are a reflection of who you are and your values, although sometimes this may not be true. When I tell people I have church on Wednesday's and am missing out on some activity, I sometimes feel judged. Judged might be too harsh, people just don't understand why. I feel like if I check in early on Saturday nights, I'll miss something. When I come home too late and don't want to get out of bed the next morning, I am missing an opportunity to grow. It feels like my faith is dormant. I have so many things going on I just don't know when to find balance for me. I lose sight on how to grow my faith. I sometimes stumble off my path.

I am in college, and I do want to have fun. I want to be able to go out and have crazy nights with my friends. On the same note, when I do that I think it confuses my faith. I am not sure how to find a balance. There will be times where I want to go to a party or go out, but that doesn't mean I have to put my faith behind for that. I don't have to exchange my values because I am a college student.

Keeping your faith in college is only going to be a challenge if you make it one. Surround yourself with people that elevate your beliefs. You can reflect on each other and show support in the way you need, spiritually. Don't put your faith aside. There is no pause button. I listen to sermons while I study, while I workout, etc. You can work worship into your schedule. There is no excuses, only choices.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
