It seems to have become a national phenomenon for universities everywhere to crack down on Greek life. Within the past few months, Penn State, Louisiana State, Texas State, Ohio State, Ball State, Florida State, University of Michigan and now, Indiana University have all put either a permanent or temporary ban on Greek life and/or Greek life activities.

This is not to say that these changes are not needed. Greek life has become a toxic atmosphere in recent years with far too many deaths, cases of hazing, alcohol abuse, and sexual misconduct. These universities are trying to spark change nationally, and hopefully, changes will be made in the near future.

As a member of Greek life at IU, a campus where around 20% of the student population is part of a fraternity or sorority, I am not really sure what to do now that we can’t have any social events with fraternities until March. I am going to have a lot more free time and here are just a few of the things that I plan on doing with it.

1. Actually study

We can all take this opportunity to really hit the books. No distractions. I expect nothing less than a 4.0s for the next three months.

2. Actually sleep

I can now plan on going to bed at a reasonable hour every night now that I won’t be coming home at 2 a.m. Will I actually go to bed at a reasonable hour? That’s up for debate...

3. Go to sporting events

At least all of this is happening as basketball season is starting to take off. I wouldn’t mind heading over to Assembly Hall a few times over the next 90 days to watch some the hoosiers.

4. Go to the gym

Now is the time. No more excuses. I have no other plans, so it is the perfect time to hit the gym more than ever before.

5. Online shop

I have a whole three months to buy outfits to wear out, once I can again.

6. Have a lot of girls’ nights

You can bet there will be a lot of Saturday nights staying in with the girls, doing face masks and eating cheesy bread. I can’t complain about that one at all.

7. Watch more Netflix

I was just saying over Thanksgiving break how I have had hardly any time to watch Netflix lately since I have been so busy with school. Now, I have all the time in the world to watch The Office for the fifth time and start the newest season of Shameless.

8. Go to the movies?

I think I have been to the Bloomington movie theater maybe two times. I'm not really sure what else there is to do here. I guess it really is time to get out of the house and see everything there is to do in Bloomington, other than go from house to house on North Jordan.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
