3 Decaffeinated Realities That Happened When I Went Without My Morning Cup Of Coffee

An over-dramatic tale of my under-caffeinated life.

3 Decaffeinated Realities That Happened When I Went Without My Morning Cup Of Coffee
Monika Dhita

I had every intention of this article being titled "I Went Without Coffee For A Week And Here's What Happened" and experimenting with what would happen if I didn't have my daily cup of java for a whole week. However, I accidentally went without coffee for just a morning when in Disney World and it was a disaster (although I'd like to say I hid it pretty well).

So one fine morning in the world of Disney, I decided it would be a great conservation of time if I skipped my morning coffee. Seemed like a good idea at the time because when I drink my morning coffee, I like to sit and relax with it before I start my day (It's really the reason I take forever to get ready in the morning) and I really wanted to head to Animal Kingdom for extra magic hours at 8 a.m.

It was still early, plus I was excited, so the lack of caffeine didn't quite hit me just yet. After spending around two hours in total in Animal Kingdom just for the Avatar ride, my boyfriend and I made our way to Magic Kingdom, where the withdrawal symptoms began.

1. Headache

As soon as I got a headache, I immediately knew that it was because I didn't have my morning coffee. It's a very specific type of headache. It's not really explainable, but all coffee-lovers who have experienced this tragic lack of caffeine know what I'm talking about.

It's kind of like an eye-ache because it's behind or just above your eyes. It's almost as if the headache makes you completely exhausted even if you had your full eight hours of sleep (even though I definitely did not get eight hours of sleep because why sleep when in Disney)?

2. Irritability

I was on the line for the Haunted Mansion ride and I just remember being angry at nothing. I'd like to think no one noticed because that would be embarrassing, but I knew I was irritable and the fact that I was irritable at nothing made me more irritable because I didn't have a reason to be irritable in the first place. I'm just going to say the word irritable one more time to get my point across of how irritable I was: irritable.

3. Melancholy

So now we're on the Haunted Mansion ride and I suddenly get an urge to cry. Why? No coffee!!!

People probably thought I was just terrified of the ride (which I totally was, but that's beside the point), but little did they know, I was just being super extra about not having coffee.

Now, before those tears welling up in my eyes became actual streams of tears running down my cheek, I got my hands on an iced caramel macchiato (yum) and before I knew it, I was back to my normal, happy self.

Now, maybe it was just lack of sleep and no caffeine to wake me up, or maybe it was a true caffeine withdrawal. Nevertheless, I learned a valuable lesson for myself: never go without your morning coffee.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
