The one thing that many college students, especially freshmen, complain about is the lack of a car when away at school. I do agree while there is nothing quite like being able to get up and go anywhere at any time with a car, there are some benefits to not having a car. Yes, I do miss singing at the top of my lungs with the windows down, but there are some perks to not having a car in college. Mainly, you can save lots of money and friendships.
1. Don't have to pay for gas
The one bad thing about having a car is paying for gas. So, without a car you don't need to spend all your hard earned money on gas.
2. Spending money on food and clothes is harder
Because not having a car is inconvenient, there are less instances where I am tempted to eat out or go shopping.
3. You become more creative when you're bored
At home, whenever I was bored I would just drive around. Now that I don't have that option, I have had to become more creative with the ways I entertain myself when I have nothing to do.
4. No awkward silences when someone asks whose driving
We all know those moments. When you really don't want to drive all your friends into the city and waste money on the gas and parking that they won't venmo you for. Without cars, we just uber everywhere so the dilemma of who has to drive has disappeared.
5. Don't have to pay for parking
This one also has your bank account thanking you. If you uber (or lyft) everywhere, you don't have to pay for parking. And you don't have to spend hours looking for a parking spot.
