The new semester has begun so that means you're getting into the new rhythm of classes, but also out of the rhythm because you are no longer home. Here are some tips to help you overcome that bug.

1. Call or Facetime your loved ones

There's just something about calling those people who mean the most to you and hearing their voice. Don't underestimate the power of a nice chat with those you miss the most.

2. Be open and talk about it

There's no shame in talking about your homesickness to your roommates or the people back home. In fact, they may have gone or may be going through the exact same situation.

3. Bring on the mementos

Whether they are pictures, a blanket or a stuffed animal, whatever makes you feel close to home, bring it.

4. Let it all out

Crying is a natural emotion and there is nothing wrong in shedding a few tears. Or a lot of them. Just make sure you give yourself a nice pep talk afterwards because I believe in you.

5. Go for a Walk

Go breathe some fresh air and disconnect from the world. Sometimes alone time helps us put things into perspective!

6. Sweat it and work it

Instead of thinking about what would you do if you were back home, focus on the present and workout! If you want to get even more creative, set some goals for yourself such as losing weight, maintaining it, or just achieving more body strength.

7. Remind yourself on why you're doing what it is you're doing

You're not away in college just to kill time. You're there to not only enjoy your journey, but to also study in order to earn a degree which will be useful later on in life. You can do it.

8. Invite a friend

How great would it be if your BFF from back home visits you at school? If you live too far, don't be afraid to make some friends!

9. Embrace change

Either you can grow from this journey or you can choose to wish you were somewhere else, while ignoring what it is that is front of you. Change isn't always comfortable and if you are, then you're not growing. I know it's difficult, but take your journey and make the best of it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
