After suffering her second UFC career loss, there has been tons of talk about whether or not Rowdy Ronda Rousey will return to the octagon. She even talked on Ellen about her possible retirement before the fight against Amanda Nunes on December 30 even happened. She said, "This is definitely one of my last fights... Everybody better watch because the show isn't going to last forever."
Regardless of whether or not Ronda returns to the ring, she has paved the way for women in the UFC, and that deserves a lot of respect on its own. But who is her successor?
Eyes are on American mixed martial artist and currently #7 in the UFC's strawweight division, Michelle Waterson, the Karate Hottie.
Waterson is 31 years old and a mother of one, but that doesn't mean she can't still kick ass! After her year and a half hiatus (injury) Waterson fought Paige VanZant in December of 2016 and won the match due to submission (a rear naked choke) in the first round. Super impressive.
While all of this is great and Waterson has had success in other areas as well, you may be wondering, "What makes her the next Ronda?"
Waterson recently signed with Rousey's agent! Also an agent to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, people think that Michelle Waterson signing with Brad Slater is proof of big things to come for the Karate Hottie-- and I for one think that she totally deserves it!
Are you upset about Ronda's possible retirement? Michelle's rise? Let me know in the comments!
