It's been 20 long years, both days and nights she's been waiting. Confined in a tall tower surrounded by a fire breathing dragon she has been unable to escape her doom. Every hour she waits until hours turn into days then into months and eventually into years. While she was beginning to feel tired of waiting, she continued to wait. For she had been told she would be rescued one day. Waiting for some mysterious prince to come to rescue her from her fate. She waited for prince charming to come. But, prince charming doesn't come in and rescue princesses anymore. He's been long off duty, yet she still waits patiently as if he may magically appear before her. Yet, she had been told that when he comes she'll live happily ever after.
As in many fairy tales, it ends that they live happily ever after. The prince ends up with the princess and now that they are together everything must be perfect. But what does happily ever after really mean? In some ways, it seems to be insinuating that in order for a girl to be happy, she must marry or discover her dream man. So many times movies show a girl finally happy the moment her hand touches his, or as he proposes to her. It acts as if until that very moment before their meeting, that girl was unhappy. Although the truth is one doesn't need a prince charming in order to be happy.
So, why is it that countless mediums make it seem that the only way to be completely happy is for a girl to find a man? It lacks what makes a person truly happy. In a way, it makes it seem that one is not in charge of their own happiness, that one's happiness is only in the hands of a man.
Not only does it seems that one's happiness is in the hands of a man, but also one's future. But, one's happiness isn't controlled by a man. A girl is not a pawn in the game of life. She can not be pulled by little strings to make her go this way and that. Her destiny and fate are not something that can be messed with by others, for she is in charge of her own destiny. It is up to her to decide her future. It is up to her to decide her fate. It is up to her to control her own life. For the only one that can truly make her happy is herself.
So as that princess waits in the highest tower waiting for her prince charming to come, she reaches a realization. She can no longer wait and waste away in the confines of a tower. She takes her destiny into her own hands. With one fair swoop, she climbs down the tower and onto the back of the fire-breathing dragon. Deciding she is done waiting, she flies off in search of her fate. For she is no longer some puppet, she is a warrior.
