Don't Expect Pastor's Families To Be Perfect

In a recent article, "15 Myths People Believe about Their Pastor," a few thoughts about the pastor and his family were explained. As a preacher's kid, I understand most myths believed and how wrong they are on a first-hand basis, but one particular point stood out to me: "Their children should be better than other people's kids and be the spiritual leaders in youth group."

This point goes on to talk about how pastors feel pressure to have a "perfect family."

A perfect family? I thought pastors teach that none of us humans can be perfect, so why is it that 94% of pastors feel this pressure to make sure their family looks good on the outside? Because it's definitely not happening on the inside of our home.

An article from ThomRainer.com took a close look at why this is. The author explained how most of the cause is at the source of the church and its congregation. From low pay to verbal abuse, this immense pressure can truly damage God-centered families.

This leads me to believe that because of all this pressure, that is why preacher's kids are either big-time rebels or goodie two-shoes. Many people seem to think there is no in-between when it comes to preacher's kids.

BUT THERE IS.

All my life as a PK, I just wanted everyone to understand that I was a normal girl just like they were, but I wanted to be a big-time rebel to prove it. I believe this is the reason why some preacher's kids go crazy, and it can be hard on the entire family.

The pressure the pastor faces to have that perfect family completely goes against that pressure for the child to prove to other kids around them that they aren't the "goodie two-shoes."

So how can this be fixed?

Stop having unrealistic expectations because your pastor's family is never going to be a perfect example to go by. Instead, go by what the Bible says and follow those guidelines. Encourage your pastor and his family, and don't say anything that could hurt their feelings/spirit unless if it absolutely needs to be said to HELP them. Encourage your pastor to put his family before the church because that doesn't mean his family has taken over the number one spot in your pastor's priorities. That spot is reserved for God and God only.

Just remember to think before you speak and don't get involved in anything you shouldn't. Just remember that, we too, are just as much human as you are: we have feelings and are had to have Jesus forgive us of our sins just like you. This would help all those who are in church. God bless.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
